At the press conference, Maresca was asked if he would send Acheampong to play. To which he replied: “No, to be honest I feel sorry for Josh as well because I think this game would be a good opportunity for him.”
“I spoke to him personally about three weeks ago about his situation and it was a good conversation. But we haven’t spoken since then,” he said.
“As I said, it’s a shame. I think Josh has the potential to be a top player. He’s only 18, he’s very young. There are things that can change for him, but he has the potential to be a key player for Chelsea.”
“It is very important for the club to keep him. The first thing we have to do is find a solution for his future. The most important thing at this stage is to play, enjoy football.”
“For him, I don’t know who’s trying to solve this problem, are they helping him? I really like Josh and I’d like him to be here with us, but it’s not possible.”
